Kurzbeschreibung

Diasporic communities as communities of care.

Project description

The project examines diasporic communities from post-migrant and feminist perspectives. Its central claim is that diaspora is not defined solely by origin, memory or a relationship to a homeland, but can be understood as a community of care. It explores relations of solidarity, responsibility and mutual dependence that cross both national borders and the divide between private care and public politics. The project brings together relational political phenomenology, feminist care theory and qualitative sociology. Taking the Belarusian diaspora as its case, it asks how experiences of exile, violence and vulnerability are taken up in transnational practices of care and how such practices can contribute to a post-migrant democracy.
