Beginnings

Since 2017, an inter-university research network in political phenomenology has grown out of the Institute of Philosophy at the FernUniversität in Hagen, with links across Germany and abroad. It began with “Die Phänomenologie und das Politische”, a conference of the German Society for Phenomenological Research hosted by the FernUniversität.

Development

Since then, political phenomenology has continued to develop through a wide range of collaborative activities: colloquia, lecture series and workshops, as well as publications, conferences and programmes for early-career researchers. Researchers and doctoral candidates from different universities regularly exchange ideas.

Purpose

The Center for Political Phenomenology provides an institutional framework for these activities. It brings together projects, shared activities and collaborations, makes them visible and ensures their long-term continuity. As an international hub, it advances political phenomenology by connecting researchers, initiating new inter-university collaborations, and developing joint research projects and collaborative funding applications.
